We create the opening video for VOLGA CHAMP an all-Russian dance festival that has been taking place in Nizhny Novgorod for 9 years. Having seen the craft identity of the festival, we definitely decided that we wanted to do an honest job using analog animation, taking the stop-motion technique as a basis. Absolutely every frame was scanned on the scanner, and then moved into the final animation. Numbers and graphic elements were drawn on paper with a marker. Animation of pre-printed text was created using slit-scan technology. Using frame-by-frame printing, animations of the lines and movements of the dancers were created. We printed, cut and scanned the motion phases frame by frame to get an honest analog craft.
